The first inhabitants populating the city was the Khoisan. Calvinia is a town of 8500 inhabitants located in the Northern Cape Province. The city is situated on the R355 road to (380 km away and 5h30-hour drive) of the city of Cape Town, west of the Province of Northern Cape, in the Namakwa district. The main language spoken in Calvinia is the Afrikaans (98.4%), and the dominant religion is Christianity. The city has four public schools, two elementary schools, one high school and one secondary school. Calvinia is the largest centers of wool production, all of South Africa. Climate and geography of CalviniaLocated in the Great Karoo, the town lies south of the Hantam mountains on the banks of the river Oorlogskloof.Calvinia is 970 meters above the sea level Coordinates : 31° 17 'South and 19° 28' East.
