II. Climate and geography of Springbok

Springbok is located 100 meters above sea level, and is housed in a narrow valley between the mountains of Koperberge Klein (small copper mountains).

The annual average precipitation and Springbok is 106mm of rain falling mainly in winter.

The climate is rather the mediterranean style, with the hottest month for January and of July the coldest.

III. Getting around in Springbok

By car :

The main roads leading to the Springbok is the N14 between Upington, the N7 national road linking the Namibian border post of Vioolsdrif Cape Town.
And finally the R382 road towards the west to Port Nolloth and Alexander Bay.

IV. What to see and what to do in Springbok

In spring, this area is famous for the incredible transformation that takes place when the scrub is covered with thousands of flowers.
One of the best places to see this phenomenon is the Goegap Nature Reserve.
The reserve is also known for its succulent rare drought resistant.

Blue Mine

This is the first copper mine comercial of South Africa, situated in outskirts, west of Springbok.

Dutch Reformed Church (Klipkerk)

Built in 1921, the old Dutch Reformed Church of Springbok in the heart of the city.

Mineshaft

Carolusberg located, it is a mine dug in 1685 on the instructions Simon van der Stel.

Koppie Monument

This memorial of the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902), located in the city center.

Namakwa 4x4 Trail

Pella Mission in Alexander Bay, 614km of the trail is a great way to discover the region.

Smelting Furnace

Lying in the north of Springbok, this national monument has been used since 1871.

Springbok Namastat

Traditional village Nama, built in round houses on a reed mat spread on a beautifully crafted skeleton of sticks.

Synagogue

Completed in 1929 and now used as the Museum of Namaqualand.

War Graves

Graves of early settlers dating back to 1860, they are in a cemetery on the road Kleinzee.

Pella Mission

Pella Mission is truly in the middle of nowhere, about 150 km from Springbok.
Pella has a remarkable cathedral, yellow that was built by French missionaries in the late 1880s.

Goegap Nature Reserve

Goegap Nature Reserve

Just 15km east of Springbok, this reserve offers travelers get the possibility of observed fauna and flora of the region. On a hiking trail 7 km you will encounter over 600 species of wildflowers and plants, 100 species of birds and 45 species of mammals such as Zebra, Oryx, Springbok... The reserve is open every day between 8 and 16.



Namaqua National Park


Namaqua National Park

Located northwest of the province, the park is known worldwide for its spectacular spring flower arrangements. Approximately 100,000 tourists visit every year Namaqualand. 65% of these visitors are in South Africa and 35% come from other countries. The park comprennt 5 km of scenic roads, hiking trails in nature, places to picnic, and an information center for visitors. The park is also equipped cottage to spend the night.



Richtersveld National Park

Richtersveld National Park

Created in 1991, the Richtersveld National Park is located northwest of the province, in Namaqualand. The landscape is rugged and hostile.
This region is home to a people of shepherds, the Nama. They live a simple life in this rigorous framework.
The Richtersveld NP is popular with 4x4 enthusiasts and nature lovers.
