I. Things to visit and see in the region of Mariental
Hardap Dam Recreation Resort
Covering an area of more than 25 hm², Hardap Dam is the largest reservoir of water in Namibia, who makes a water sports and an ideal refuge for birds.
You can go fishing, hiking (9-15 km) , the drive games (Rhinoceros, Steenbok , Zebra , Ostrich , Springbok , etc.), and Aquatic activities like kayaking, boat etc ...
The dam built on the Fish River is 865 meters long and 39 meters high and has a capacity of 300 million m3.
Hardap Dam Recreation Resort is located 20 km north of Mariental towards Windhoek (B1) and then the M93.
Admission is open from 6 am to 23h throughout the year.
Camping, cottages, restaurant are available (see camping or lodge Mariental) .
The rate for the site entrance is N$ 40 per person and N$ 10 per vehicle.

Bitterwasser
A 104 km northeast of Mariental on the C21, is the farm of 5500 hectares Bitterwasser.
Thanks to the exceptional climatic conditions prevailing there, Bitterwasser became the go looking for glider pilots worldwide.
The best time is between October and February, when the thermals are the best.
Scenic flights are also available, either in a glider, motor glider, microlight or balloon.

Gibeon
The Gabeon is a small village located 72 km south of Mariental (Route B1) .
The village gave its name to a meteorite that crashed in the region.
Before the meteorite breaks up and scattered over an area of 275 km long and 100km wide, it weighed 26 tons, making it the those méteotite the largest known to date.
