Location of the town of Katima Mulilo
Population: 24.500 inhabitants

Located 1208 km from Windhoek and 508 km from Rundu, the "big" city, beautifully situated on the Zambezi, acts Capital of Regional Caprivi .
Residential neighborhoods of the city extends to the periphery of its two main streets, which correspond to the new shopping and administrative.

A small market local products spread over the central square.
Place of assembly and exchange of people across the region, the square is lined with supermarkets, bottle store and music stores.
A little behind, a small round building of displays and sells local crafts (local prices).



Getting to Katima Mulilo

Katima Mulilo is accessible by B8 ( TransCaprivi Caprivi Highway).
The nearest town of Rundu Katima Mulilo is located at about 500 km.
Katima Mulilo is also available by bus .

Railways:

In October 2007, a proposal has been announced for a railway between Zambia and Namibia via Katima Mulilo.
The line would be to Grootfontein to Katima Mulilo and then Mulobezi (130 km) with 80 km upgrade of the line to Livingstone.

Post border with Zambia:

It is possible to access the Zambia Katima Mulilo Bridge (900m long) across the river linking Zambia and Sesheke.
The visa for Zambia is obtained at the border for 25 USD.
Authorization of its car rental is mandatory.



A little history ...

Katima Mulilo is attached to Namibia only in the late nineteenth century and has hosted the South African forces Arrian geurre during the civil.
Katima Mulilo sometimes seems to live on the margins of the truth :
Many merchants do not accept and lodge the Namibian winter time and continue to live at a time other countries in Southern Africa.
